Kirsten Ley presents her FW2019 collection entitled NAISSANCE, representing the birth, or “rebirth,” of her label as an official Parisian fashion house. With nods to classical French couture techniques while maintaining modern, avant garde silhouettes, Ley’s latest collection dives into the intricacies of one’s own elaborate psyche, drawing inspiration from a sense of massive upheaval, romance lost, and immense heartbreak. NAISSANCE’s colour palette features metallic deep blue and Ley’s signature crisp oxblood softened by whimsical sheer creams, manifesting the emotional dichotomy of a fragmented human psyche.
This collection is influenced by the heaviness of a burdened soul, the softness of Parisian air, rebirth and regrowth. Fluttered with a modern take on Elizabethan details, transported into a smokey Parisian bar, like a butterfly kept beneath a glass menagerie, NAISSANCE evokes a romantic escapism for the viewer. It grasps at memories of immense love and loss, only to regenerate and grow, as a plant sprouts a new leaf upon damage. It is the quiet optimism of our innate power to overcome man-made destruction embodied in the weeds, moss and flowers growing through cracks in the pavement. It is a silent and personal revolution, emerging valiantly from an internal battle to find worth despite a broken soul and battered mind. NAISSANCE is about rediscovering oneself and finding the ability to breathe again.

Using intuitive and sculptural techniques, she creates visceral one-of-a-kind works of art, juxtaposing structurally bound garments with the softness and translucence of fervent, flowing silks. Gifted with both a technician’s hand for tailoring and the unhindered inventiveness of her artistic expression, Ley’s signature aesthetic is laden with fabric manipulation as she playfully challenges her viewers’ perception. Her empowering garments balance strong lines and hard tailoring with soft femininity, immense attention to detail, and free flowing creativity of reckless abandon. Kirsten Ley is rapidly making her mark as an innovative, experimental, and tactile designer on the world of fashion.
