Q: What was the inspiration for your latest collection?
My AW2012 collection was inspired by the carnival spirits in Venice, it is not just a creation of beautiful garments, but also focuses on the fairy tale dreams which girls aspire to within their lives. With a masking dress, every girl can live her dream and become the princess she deserves to be.
Q: Being a clothing designer, do you also buy clothes for yourself?
As a fashionista, I used to buy lots of clothes myself, but now I only wear my own designs as I have been told that I am the best ambassador for my label.
Q: Do you you offer a bespoke service too?
Yes I offer a tailor made service to my customers based on their request and budget. Usually the customer would choose pieces from my collection, yet if they have a budget, based on which I can use alternative fabric and trimming to make garments for them providing that it still allows me to use decent quality material and make the garments beautiful.
Q: Who is your favourite designer at the moment?
My favour couture designer is Valentino, for ready-to-wear , my favour designer is Oscar De La Renta, Yet for accessories, my favour designer is Chanel.
Q: Is there a kind of dress you haven’t designed yet?
Yes I have been thinking of designing a collection of dresses inspired by Audrey Hepburn, she is a true fashion icon and always an inspiration.
Q: What garments every woman should have in her wardrobe?
Below are the must have pieces I think every woman should have in her wardrobe:
A black little dress for a night out or special occasion
A trench coat in neutral colour as a stylish outwear all year round.
A black blazer for formal business settings
A simple pensil skirt and a white shirt for both work and play.
A pair of comfortable jeans
Q: What piece of clothes is worth spend a decent amount of money for?
A classic evening/cocktail dress is always an investing piece, you can wear it for many years and it never goes out of date.
Q: Do you think there is still something to invent in fashion?
Fashion continues to innovate at the service of style and well being, from textile, to design process, to manufacturing, on to PR, sales and marketing and so forth, I am sure we can expect to see and experience lots of exciting inventions in the years to come.
Q: Would you give up your own label to work for a famous brand as creative designer?
I like to create garments which I like to make and wear, I enjoy very much the creative independence working on my own label. My aim is to build and grow LunaSky with my love and passion, so I don’t think I will ever give it up and work for another brand as creative designer.
Q: What do you think about fast fashion like Zara, H&M..?
Fast fashion brands such as Zara, H & M have achieved strong international presence and huge success as they provide fashionable garments at affordable price. They enjoy increasing popularity during this economic downturn, especially among the mass consumers. Yet for me I always love quality and I think designer clothes worth the money for the quality and details.
Q: What are the most important details in a dress?
I think the neckline and bodice are the most important details in a dress, they can enhance the body figure of the customer and reflect their personal styles. The fabric and trimmings are also critical.
Q: Are the accessories really important to complete an outfit?
It depends, couture outfit usually have lots of details and it could be beautiful itself without any accessory embellishments. Yet for a simple outfit, accessories can make a big difference and enhance the look.
