The company, which was originally founded in 1984 in Cairo by fitness instructor Sara Hanna, the city where she was living and running a successful aerobics studio, first started life as The Leotard Company.  Over thirty years on, TLC is now based in the UK, and with her daughter Charlotte who joined the business in 2012, they are still a proudly family owned and run business, with retailers and customers around the globe.

Passionate about staying true to the brand’s roots, TLC maintain their design and production at the company’s own factory in Cairo where they have a team of skilled craftsmen and women.

TLC see all those who work with them as part of their close knit family and foster a shared sense of success in all their employees.

“We know the names of the men of who spun our bespoke fabrics, we even know the childrens’ names of the ladies who stitched our seams, we know the dreams of the women who picked your order and lovingly wrapped it and we know how important it is to work as a team. We know what it means to be made with love, because we are not just a business, we are a family.” – Sara Hanna, Founder

Fit, fabric and attention to detail is paramount for this brand which has been providing ethically, sustainably, beautifully crafted size and body-inclusive activewear for over 35 years.  Their mission is to offer stylish but technical clothing designed to make their customers feel body-confident every day.

As a British brand, TLC also work hard in order to control their own direct supply chain.  TLC work with local suppliers they’ve known in excess of 40 years and employ a team of 70 highly skilled-machinists, many of which have been with the company over 25 years.

They know their machinists, pattern makers and cutters personally, because they take great care to hire them, safeguarding the brand’s reputation for quality.  In a push back against the fast-fashion industry, TLC launched a ‘WE KNOW THEIR NAMES’ Campaign to educate their customers of the importance of ethical manufacturing and fair pay. TLC treat all their staff with respect, care and love and support them with outreach programmes.

For the garments themselves, TLC use exclusive, innovative, figure enhancing materials and high performance fabrics.  They work with certified suppliers to ensure all their fabrics and produced according to sustainable and environmental standards.  For this reason, TLC is a brand which is purposefully not trend led, but is still fashionable and technically innovative.

The majority of TLC’s wide range is designed in dark colours, so that garments not only never date, but they avoid the use of colourful dyes that cause more damage to the environment.  In addition, thanks to the skilled hands of their craftsmen and women, seams of all their garments are engineered to withstand the pressures of daily wear and regular washing, meaning that they will last for many years.
