S for Shoko

SHOKO was born in Tokyo and now works as an artist / designer based in London and Tokyo. As a child she travelled regularly to the US and France, and grew up in an international environment. After studying fashion design in Tokyo, SHOKO went on to study art and graphic design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London where shecompleted her BA and MA.

SHOKO’s artwork covers a broad creative spectrum ― including painting, design, music and performance art. She has collaborated on projects involving many world-famous fashion labels, and has regularly published illustrations in Japanese magazines such as /ELLE/, /So-en/, and /NUMERO/.

SHOKO is now launching her own label called ’S for Shoko’ with a Spring/Summer 2016 collection ― all produced in London and featuring textiles printed with her original illustrations.

S for Shoko – Automne Hiver 17 : “Une Femme Est Une Femme”

We are delighted to announce the AW 17 collection from “S for Shoko” the eponymous label from Tokyo fashion Bunka graduate Shoko Sata.

Beginning as a dream some 10 years ago, “S for Shoko” became a reality for Shoko-san; artist, illustrator, musician, designer and Central St. Martins graduate.

“S for Shoko” represents a real life “dream come true”, allowing Shoko to playfully explore her creativity, love of clothing, art, ideas and philosophy through a quixotic journey into fashion.

Inspirations for this season come wandering through the smoke filled haze of Jean-Luc Besson’s beatnik Paris via the glens of Bonnie Scotland with a sunlit meander through Kew Gardens for good measure!

Intriguing fabrics quickly settle down together leaving inky velvets, tartan tweeds and silk crepe de chine, sitting along side each other to create a pleasing kaleidoscope of texture and colour.

Not content with collaborators like Agnes b. and Meli Melo, (a favourite of Kate Middleton no less) Shoko is even on Paul Smith’s Christmas card list!  If Shoko-san is dreaming we don’t ever want her to wake up!
